Official recognition of eSports in Russia

Official recognition of eSports in Russia

Recognition of eSports as an official kind of sport in Russia has become a milestone event for the industry and opened many prospects for business. The act of the Russian Sports Ministry provides an official status to this discipline by adding it to the all-Russian registry of sports.

The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation registered this act on June 3, on June 7 the document was published on the official website, and on June 18 it came into force.

This draft implies the organization of computer sports competitions under the auspices of the Sports Ministry, which will allow the winners to receive the titles of Master and Merited Master of Sports of Russia, as well as International Master of Sports.

The possibility of including computer sports into the list of Olympic disciplines is also being considered. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) provided a ‘road map’ to the International eSports Federation (IeSF) in April.

For eSports tournaments to receive the Olympic status, their organizers have to demonstrate to the Committee that they are quite popular among players, have development prospects and can gain international recognition. The IeSF will also have to showcase the availability of centralized system for computer competitions management.

You will find more information about the prospects that open up for business at eSPORTconf Russia 2016 on December 1.
